If someone Would have told me ...

Right now I am sitting on the porch in Laguna listening to some Music just thinking about random things... I Love doing that! The sentence I was just thinking about is: "If someone would have told me three years ago that I would someday sit in Laguna Beach having the time of my life", I would have def. not believed him or her. But I guess that's exactly the point. Like I wrote in an earlier post "the unexpected is what changes your Life"! I never saw myself sitting here (how could I without knowing the place). I did not even think about it. I knew that I want to go to America, and I knew that I will have a great time, feel free and be myself but I never expected it to be like this. I guess people can tell you all these great things. They tell you that you will have a great time, that you will met a lot of people and that you don't want to go back to Germany once you get out of the plane but you never believe them until you see, hear and feel it yourself. It s kinda funny why I started thinking about this sentence. I bet you all had friends in High school which you knew and got along with when you saw them but you were not close friends. Miriam was one of these girls to me. She was not a close friend during High school but we always got along well. Who would have thought that she is one I was chillin in a hot tube with tonight! So if someone would have told me I will be sitting in a hot tube with Miriam in Laguna Beach someday I would have laughed my Ass off (no offence) BUT! I am Glad it is happening! I am glad she is in my Life again! I get to know her like I never did during 3 years of High school! She is a great tough girl who dances her ass of even though she should be walking on crutches! I just never saw that in her until now!!! Everything happens for a reason and I am glad Miriam twisted her ankle so we could spend the whole weekend together! Sometimes the weirdest things turn out to be great adventures!

Like our trip to San Diego! I think I have never talked that much bullshit in 24 hours... hmmm OK I take that back I have def. done that before :P !
We had a lot of fun though. Partying in the Gaslamp district is def. something I can recommend to everyone who visits San Diego. I would love to tell you the name of the bar we went to ... but I can't ... because I don't remember... LOL! But it was great, even though I saw many weird people running around there...But whatever we still had a lot of fun. ... Oh Yeah can someone tell me why US-Clubs close at 2.am? What's the point? That's when people in Munich start going out!

Ok I have to admit getting kicked out of a bar at 2.am helps a lot if you want to go for a sight seeing tour the next day! No hangover and now deprivation of sleep. Thanks to a friend we had a whole lot of shit planed for the next day. On the check list was the harbor, the aircraft-carrier museum (save 18$ if you want to visit it... we did not go inside because we did not save any money ... we rather spent it on Patrón), Coronado Island and Point Loma Lighthouse! In case you have someone with you, who wants to talk you into renting one of these funny multiple person bikes say NO or make sure you have enough guys who can and want to cycle that thing non-stop for one hour, it's more exhausting than it looks like! But it is kinda fun if you have the right people with you, like a disabled one (sorry Miri ;)) and a german :P ... ja our trip so SD was def. awesome and I hope I can go there again soon! Here are some pics of our little adventure -->San Diego Pics<--

If someone would have told me ...
I think everyone can finish this sentence in a personal way realizing that things not always happen the way you think they will. Enjoy every day and don't think about what could happen in 2,4,7 or 20 years, because you never know.
You will not believe it anyway if someone tells you!!!

HIGH 5!

Five days five different places!

Hollywood boulevard
Lakers vs. Brooklyn Nets
Thanksgiving
Las Vegas
The Grand Canyon

A lot has happened last week. I hope you are prepare for a lot of pictures and many fun stories about Michael and me experiencing the USA, or at least (the best) parts of it. Oh Yeah in case you are not interested in reading this (awesome ;)) Blog post just check out my pictures on Flickr --> http://www.flickr.com/photos/greenberly14/sets/ !

First stop Hollywood Boulevard!

"You don't want to see the Hollywood Blvd, it's fucking boring and nothing special, just some stupid stars on a street... not more.." .. Hmmmm ja this is what my mom told me when I was (around) 10 years old telling her that I would love to see the stars on the Hollywood Boulevard. But I kinda thought that even though she told me it will be boring I have to see it myself. OK MOM I admit it YOU WERE RIGHT! The Hollywood Blvd is nothing special, just a bunch of stars on the sidewalk and Darth Vaders, Spidermans and Transformers running up and down the street.
But for Michael and me it still was a fun adventure. WHY? Imagine driving through America not having a navigation system or a map (not even a print out from google maps... just nothing) --> sounds like a MUST to loose your way, huh? Jup that's exactly what happened to us. I still don't know which part of L.A. we were driving through, or if it even was L.A. After we finally made it to the blvd. we were kinda disappointed. It for sure was a fun experience, but not a place I would love to go a second time. Been there done that. Now I can finally cross it from my "to-do-list".

Let's Go Lakers Let's Go!

Another thing that was on my "to-do-list" is to shout "DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE" during a NBA Basketball game. I can cross that off my list too. Michael and me went to see the Lakers vs. the Brooklyn Nets last Tuesday! I was really looking forward cheering at Kobe and the rest of the team BUT it seemed we were the only ones thinking that... at least for the first two quarters. In the end of the third quarter the lower blocs helped us a little and at the middle of the 4th quarter almost everyone was cheering and singing... I guess the Americans either have to be drunk to start singing, or wait until there is a reason (when the team is loosing) to cheer them up! It still was an amazing game and an awesome experience to see the Lakers, and especially the MVP Kobe Bryant play.

Thanks to the Giving!

I am sorry I cannot tell you how my "first" Thanksgiving was... because this was not my first Thanksgiving... My family always celebrates it, even though we live in Germany. What I can talk to you about is my first American-sunset-ocean-view-thanksgiving.
Earlier that day (11/22/12) Michael, Jason, Jona and me went out for a little Turkey Paddle boarding Session (the first annual of a new tradition :P ) enjoying the cold ocean before having fresh turkey. Oh Yeah... btw...I almost caught my first wave... but I wiped out ... damn! Next time I'll catch it!!
Back home (at Stevies house) we opened up fresh cold beer, set up everything, played this funny game with the corn bags and waited for all the guests too arrive (I think almost 15 guests were invited). Stevie did such a great job!!! The Turkey was sooo Yummi, the table looked beautiful, the salads, stuffing (the stuff that goes into the turkey while baking in the oven), cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and so on were soooo delicious... And the best part was the view! Eating a Turkey normally means sitting in Mayen, Waldorf or Burg Brohl around a table but this was totally different... Sun setting into the ocean and a beautiful view over Laguna beach. Just perfect. But see yourself! --> Thanksgiving pics <--

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!

Ok maybe not this time, cause I definitely have to tell you what happened in Vegas (OK maybe not in detail but the fun things for sure!). NO Michael and me did not get married in Vegas!!! NO we did not get roofied and ended up on the roof of the Caesars and NO we did not win a billion dollars (damn...). But lets start from the beginning... We arrived in our Hotel (The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino) on Friday afternoon after a 5 hour drive from Laguna Beach to Vegas. Hard Rock Casino Tour 10th Floor was our address for the next two nights (even though people say Vegas does not sleep)! Wuhuuuuu! Our plan: get wasted on friday and gamble and enjoy the city on Saturday! On the strip we were kinda overwhelmed by all the lights, people, hotels and casinos. You actually don't really know where to go first! ... We decided on Planet Hollywood (we spend a lot of time there actually). Ok Gambling... hmmm I 've never done that before so I was kinda nervous and glad I had Michael who kinda knew the roulette rules ... Unfortunately he lost some money playing it so i tried it... It looked good in the beginning sometime I won some chips sometimes I lost some... But I ended up loosing 40$... bummer... So we went on looking for something else. Michael wanted to gamble in the Bellagio (d'oh)... So we went there but the limits on roulette were too high so we decided to just gamble on the 1$ one-armed-bandits... Def. a good choice (at least for me ... Michi was not that lucky). I had no Idea what to do so I just pulled the arm (sounds easier than it is ;D). That turned out to be a good Idea cause I think after pulling it for 3 times I already won 100$ Oo!!! Wuhuuuu! It is a really weird feeling winning that much money just because you pull that silver arm... I guess that feeling makes most of the people addicted to gambling. It's a mix of being happy, wanting more and maybe a little doubt if you can win again. I kept on playing... Michi didn't he was not too lucky that night gave up playing pretty soon... I kept on playing still in my mind that I have to stop at some point if I don't want to loose all my money. I left that one-armed-bandit still having the 100$ I won in the beginning and for me that was enough. We decided to go on and find some place to party a little. We had no idea where to go... So we bought some Gatorade and some Vodka to at least start somewhere. We found a open air bar with Hip Hop music. We danced a little had some drinks and enjoyed the great music. We stayed there for a while and then moved on to our second stop. My Roomie told me about the "pure", a club in the Caesars Palace. Arriving there they told us we have to pay 60$ to enter (Michi 40$ and Me 20$)... NO WAY we pay that to get into a club. We left the pure, or at least tried to, cause there was no "going out" anymore the security kinda locked us in. The manager stepped up and asked why we want to leave and after we told him that we don't want to pay that much money he said: "OK How about you (Kim) get in for free and you (Michi) pay 10$?" DEAL! Wuhuuuuu dancing, partying, drinking (very expensive but good) and getting ready for the night. I think the think Michael remebers most about the pure is the service you get in the mens restrooms... I cannot tell because I was not there but he describes it as "The best time he ever spend in a restroom". I guess if you need more details you have to ask Michi or if you are a guy just go there an experience it yourself!!! We were totally happy, stoked and had a lot of fun but I wanted more! Ok maybe it was because it was not my kind of bar.. for me it was a little too snobby so we went back to the open air bar.  But we never arrived there... We instead met some guys on the sidewalk and decided to walk around with them. They told us that they are in Vegas because they had a gig with their band (weird is the new cool) in the Planet Hollywood. We just walked around a little bit until a weird guy stopped us asking if we want some "MARSHMALLOW VODKA". Sound really Yuck right? but it was actually really good. It was that kind of Vodka you can easily drink pure. I think after meeting that guy we did not spend any money on alcohol anymore, not because we did not want to... we did not have to that guy (I don't remember his name ...) bought it all. After the bottle (and all the other drinks) were empty we tried to find something else to party but apparently Vegas does sleep. No party after 4am... only gambling... Jup that's what we did (or better that's what I did), Michi vanished and left me in the Planet Hollywood where I won another 30$ playing Roulette :P Def. My night! I ended up being totally drunk without paying one cent! Guess that's how you do it!!! On Saturday we walked around Vegas for 6 hours... I think we saw almost every Hotel and Casino in Vegas. It is impressive what they built up in the middle of nowhere. Glad I can cross that from my list too, but it will not be the last time I went there!! -->Vegas Pics<--

Last Stop The Grand Canyon!!

On Sunday Nov. 25 we went on a Bus tour to see the Grand Canyon. The Tour started at 6.45 in the morning and ended at 9p but it was def. worth it to spend all day in the bus. I cannot even tell that much about it because you have to see it to understand how beautiful, impressive and huge this wold wonder is. We only saw a little part of it but if you imagine that it is 277 miles (446km)  long and 4 to 18 miles (6,4-29km) wide, you just cannot believe it. I have never seen something like that before. Most impressive were the colors and the different layers of stone being perfectly straight. BEAUTIFUL. Just check out my pictures and you will maybe understand why I am so stoked (btw these are my favorite pics of all 5 days). -->Canyon Pics<--

Fearless!

My roommate Shanelle gave me the "fearless" bracelet you can see in the picture. I really really love it. I was looking for a leather bracelet everywhere but I could not decide on the color, style or size. This one is just perfect.

When you live your life and do things in a certain way, you most of the time don't realize how other people see you. Being in California opened my eyes on who I am, or at least on what people see in me. Shanelle always tells me "Kim you are so fearless." It's really stunning how people see something in you, that you obviously show them but maybe don't think about or realize. I never thought I am fearless, I even thought the exact opposite. Before I left every one told me "You will have a blast", "You will love it"or "When you're there you don't want to come back anymore" ... OK ... they were ALL right!!! I know...anyways... I was terrified coming here. It freaked me out, I even sat with my mom crying about how scared I am. But I guess this is exactly what makes me fearless to some people, doing things even though you are scared. The scary things are most fun I guess!

I always wanted to go to the US. When I was younger it was my dream to spend a year in an American high school or something but I never had the balls to do it. I was sooo proud of my little brother when he went to Canada (guess his balls were big enough, haha). He did what I was not fearless enough for!

Now is my time. Maybe I was not ready when I was younger, maybe I had to grow and know more about me to really be able to enjoy this. Being fearless does not mean the same to anyone. For Shanelle it might be travelling the world, for my sister it is skydiving (??) and for me it is... THIS:

It's a song I wrote, or better, just the lyrics, the music to it is still missing. I don't know if they are good, or bad or even useful to make a song out of them, if not it's just a poem about life. I was really scared posting this to you but my friends convinced me to show some nuts and not be afraid ... be fearless instead!!!
Hope you like it and feel free to MAKE A SONG out of it!
If you do, please let me hear it.

Happy (48h) Birthday!!!

Thank you very much for thinking about me today.
I was really happy getting birthday wishes from all over the world!Australia, Germany and the USA.

That was when I realized, that your actual birthday last longer than just 24h. I know it sounds weird but can you imagine that it was 4 o'clock Tuesday night here in California but it was already 12 o'clock Wednesday morning (my birthday morning) in Russia? OK I gotta admit I was really bored and I had it all figured out! So we can actually celebrate out birthday for 48 hours, isn't that awesome?

I know that I sometimes post very emotional and maybe sensitive post but I guess birthdays always show me that I am definitely not alone and I have a lot a friends and family all around the world who really care about me! I am soo glad an I appreciate knowing you!!
Anyways where ever the congratulations came from I was really happy and every single one made me smile! So thanks again to everyone! I had a great day!
Oh yeah and here in California it is not over yet so I ll just keep on enjoying every second of it!

Stand up Paddling

Yesterday was my second time standing on a paddle board far out in the pacific ocean. When I first heard about Stand Up paddling I thought that sound sooo easy and kinda boring. Where is the exhausting and athletic part of this sport? Yeah... hmmm... I guess now that I know better I'll never doubt it to be a sport anymore!

Have you ever heard the sentence "GO WITH THE FLOW" before?  Going with the flow gets a totally different meaning when you are standing out on the ocean on a paddle board with a large paddle in you hand to move you and the board through the water. Why? Because you have to feel the ocean moving underneath you, you have to go with the flow of the water. If you don't You will fall! I fell sooooo many times on my first time on the board. It really looks a lot easier that it actually is. That's why I was sooo round that I didn't fall into the water yesterday. I guess I learned how to go with the flow! Ok I gotta admit I got a little wet but not from paddling around, it was because now that I am kinda steady paddling around I tried surfing some small waves.... TRIED! I almost got my first wave...ALMOST :(! But still I was soo happy! felt so good being out in the ocean and just feeling the water move, see the beautiful cost of Laguna Beach and see a Seal swim through the water (ok it was not really close but I saw it... and I was not wearing contact lenses so it was not that far away from me).

Oh Yeah I almost forgot. The ocean was 55°F (12°C) cold. Thank god that the hot tub was heated up. Enjoying a beautiful sunset in Laguna Beach while sitting in a cosy hot tub... Sounds perfect to me!!!

When the student is ready the teacher appears...

I guess this blog post is dedicated to my Mom! It's hard for me to admit but apparently she was right and always is :-P Her favorite sentence lately is:

"WHEN THE STUDENT IS READY THE TEACHER APPEARS"

I don't know if you have ever heard that sentence before but if you start looking around you will find many people who suddenly appeared to you life to change it in a positive way!!It might be possible that other people already told you things a thousand times but you did not understand them because you(the student) were not ready yet. If you are ready someone will show up an you will have these "Flash-Thoughts" I talked about in my last post.

I want to talk to you about my teacher (sorry mom but it's not you), who lately came to my life (sure you don't only have one teacher but this one is so important that I have to tell you about her). Her name is Stevie, a beautiful, organized, helpful, caring, open-hearted, kind ... (can go on for hours)... loving mom and wife. I know her through family friends and she helped me so many times already and she was always there when I needed her most. THANK YOU STEVIE!! When I was "homeless" in my first week in Cali, she and her husband Jason gave me a bed, food and warm water. Jason also helped me find a place to stay, a car and a new friend in my life! Jason - I owe you big time!!!!

Why do i think Stevie is my teacher? Ok first because she just lately appeared to my life, second because she already opened my eyes sooo many times and third because I feel it.  How can a single person do that? I don't know! I just know that all she says, the way she says it and the things she has experienced in her life all make sense to me. I cannot really tell you why. Every time we talk I have at least one flash-thought. I know there is a reason for everything. And I know there is a reason why I came to California maybe to find my love, maybe to find a job or maybe just for ONE more important reason to find MY TEACHER. STEVIE! Thank you very much for everything!!!

Expect the unexpected...

A good friend of mine told me yesterday, that he tries to learn something out of every situation in his life. It was not the first time someone told me that. I try to live like that for a long time already, but this time those words had totally different meaning to me. Sometimes when I am driving around in my car, talking to different people or just being lost in my thoughts I have something like a "flash-thought" hitting me like a stroke. I start seeing habits I am so used to that I don't even know that I behave that way.

I had that Flash-Thought yesterday after thinking what the word EXPECTATION means to me. I realized that I have a lot of expectations in other people's behavior. But it is not any of my business expecting a certain behavior from people I like! Or ... I can have expectations but I don't have any right being pissed or sad if they don't get fulfilled.
For me everything  comes together now...I realize that there is a difference between thinking positive and expecting things to happen in a certain way. Expectations are much more detailed... If you have an expectation you know exactly what you want, how people should behave or how food should taste and if this detailed belief does not exactly come true the result is being disappointed. But how can I know how things will turn out in detail if I havn't experienced them yet?  I definitely can't tell how exactly or rather detailed the future will be...
BUT... If you think positive about things the details don't count. You just KNOW everything will turn out fine, doesn't matter how, IT JUST WILL.

Now that I know about this habit I can start working on it, start changing it and make life easier for my friends and me. I want to thank my friend for opening my eyes. For making me go out of any situation even stronger. I told that person already that he's always having the right words which I am very thankful for.

Progressive Dinner!

I bet no-one of you has a clue what a progressive dinner is... I didn't know what to expect either... until yesterday night.

It's actually very simple to explain.

YOU NEED:
5 different apartments
5 different themes
20 beach cruiser

HOW IT WORKS:
Every apartment thinks about a theme for the night. We had - Fall, 4th of July, Germany (that was our theme for sure), Hawaii and Mardi Gra New Orleans. Every house prepares food, drinks, dresses up and decorates everything with things that fit the motto. Set up a time to meet at the first house and the party can start (everyone dressed up in their theme) After staying at the first apartment for one hour you just ride the beach bikes through the city in a large crazy dressed up group to get to the next house.

Oh yeah and i played the funniest drinking game I've ever played!!!

What's the name of the game? "THUMPER"
How do we play it? "THUMP LIKE THIS"
Why do we play it? "TO GET FCKD UP!"

I have never experienced something like that! I had such a fun night, met a lot of people, had some drinks, awesome food and went back home to germany for one hour (better than nothing).  For more pictures check out my Flickr-Account!

Rubber Bean!!

"If it don't matter to you it don't matter to me!"

These lyrics originally belong to a Donavon Frankenreiter Song, but this not the person I want to talk to you about. The song reminds me of someone else...
Not Donavon himself sang the last words of his song, when I first heard it. He asked someone from his audience up on stage to finish the song! The guy he asked up was Keith Thornton, a 25 year old singer/songwriter from San Clemente (aka the guy who invited me to come to San Diego with him and his friends to go to a music festival - after knowing me for 30 minutes). The crowd totally freaked out when Keith started singing the chorus. His voice is special! He carries his emotions out to everyone, with a very rough and dark but at the same time sensitive and unique voice. His voice gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it....

After these amazing 5 minutes of fame ;) I was very curious about this guy and I kinda started listening to the songs he wrote. His Band is called Rubber Bean and they just play together for a few months ... not even a year ... but to me it seems like as if they already play together for several years. I cannot explain why his songs give me the chills... maybe it's because they are different, maybe because his voice is very special or maybe it's the fact that I can feel his emotions with every lyric he sings. He is happy and he loves doing it and everyone can see, feel or hear it.
If you like rock, reggae and blues you should definitely listen to some of their songs. This is just a sample (sorry for the quality) if you want more, better quality check out: http://www.reverbnation.com/rubberbean
I cant wait to see them live with my best friend on Nov. 21 in San Clemente!

Oh Yeah, Keith I hope you are not mad that I post your song and talking all this cheesy stuff about your band, but sharing your talent with everyone is my way to THANK YOU for everything!!! You are awesome and I am glad we met!! (At this point I have to thank Jason for showing me "the best store" in Laguna Beach!)

Seasons...

"Usually it's not that warm in October"... At least this is what everyone is telling me.

It is actually kinda weird looking through different Facebook Posts and reading things like "snow", "-2°", "Frau Holle" or "cold" while sitting underneath a blue sky, sunshine and 31°C (87°F). I have to admit, right now i am not missing the cold. Feels good to be able to spend all day outside, sitting in the sun. People here seem much more active and willing to spend time outside. Exactly what I like!

I choose sunshine over cold!!
